Moniker.com has closed a major domain sale, one that ranks as the second biggest sale reported so far in 2012. Also today, technical glitches forced ICANN to move back today’s application deadline for those who want to operate new gTLD registries.

DomainHoldings.com continues to add to its staff of seasoned industry veterans, bringing highly regarded former DomainSponsor Senior Account Manager Jim Grace on board as Director of Monetization. Grace will oversee the company’s DomainPower monetization platform.

The new weekly domain sales report is out at DNJournal.com. A trio of .coms in the mid five-figure range fill the first three spots on our new all extension Top 20 Sales Chart. The 15 .coms on the leader board were joined by three .nets and a pair of ccTLDs.

We have learned that a deal for a major city IDN geodomain was completed in July 2011 when the final installment on a $216,000 purchase price was paid. That is the highest verified sale price reported to date for an IDN. The sale also ranks among the 30 biggest domain sales reported last year.

As most of you know, a little-known Brazilian company is attempting to use the UDRP process to hijack the generic domain name, SaveMe.com, from its owner, Rick Schwartz. Today Schwartz spread the news beyond industry boundaries, making sure mainstream businesses are aware of the hijacking threat too.
